The LGBTQ+ Bar hosted a webinar addressing the impact of the HERO vote on December 11, 2015. The Houston Equal Rights Ordinance (HERO), introduced and backed by Mayor Annise Parker, prohibits discrimination on a variety of characteristics, including sexual orientation and gender identity, in city employment, housing, public accommodations and other arenas. Despite widespread support from national LGBTQ+ organizations, the measure was defeated by Houston voters on November 3, 2015 in a widely-publicized and bitterly-debated referendum.
