Statement on Trump v. Hawai'i

Washington, D.C. - The National LGBT Bar Association is very disappointed by the Supreme Court’s decision in Trump v. State of Hawai’i.

The President’s travel ban shamefully violates our nation’s fundamental values of equal protection and religious freedom by targeting a vulnerable minority group based on xenophobia and prejudice. Today, a majority of the Supreme Court held that the President may disfavor a particular minority group – a holding that betrays our principles and threatens us all.

We continue to stand with Muslims and immigrants, and to join their ongoing struggles for justice.

The National LGBT Bar Association is a national association of lawyers, judges and other legal professionals, law students, activists and affiliated lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender legal organizations. The LGBT Bar promotes justice in and through the legal profession for the LGBT community in all its diversity.
