Companies have been scored on their diversity programs for years. In 2018, the Human Rights Campaign (HRC) gave 100% ratings to over 600 businesses, many of them Fortune 500 companies and top law firms. So why do 33% of LGBTQ+ graduates return to the closet with their first manager and 23% with their first work colleagues? Even those who are out at work, only 26% say they at “open to all” of their colleagues. Employees at employers with LGBT employee groups had twice as many employees open to someone at work. But we can do better; even at employers with LGBT employee groups only two-thirds of employees felt “very welcomed” by the group. The session will focus on insights on how employers can leverage their LGBTQ community to improve diversity and inclusion to recruit and retain top talent. It will discuss going beyond a 100% HRC Score to employ strategies that support employees so that their whole selves show up at work.
