Michael T. Nguyen is a San Francisco-based speaker, advocate, and community organizer. A practicing patent attorney for over 14 years, Mr. Nguyen is an alum of Fenwick & West LLP (securing a summer associate role there in 2007 through the Lavender Law Conference & Career Fair), Salesforce.com, and several Silicon Valley Intellectual Property boutique firms. In 2021, Mr. Nguyen was appointed by Mayor Breed to the newly reconstituted LGBTQI+ Advisory Committee of the San Francisco Human Rights Commission, the only queer legislative body in San Francisco. As Chair Emeritus of the GLBTQ+ Asian Pacific Alliance (GAPA), an advocacy organization that envisions a powerful Queer, Trans, Asian and Pacific Islander (QTAPI) community that is seen, heard, and celebrated (www.gapa.org), Michael has revitalized a legacy all-volunteer organization with a renewed spirit and more inclusive mission. Michael is currently the Director of IP Operations and Associate at Patent Law Works, helping technology companies quickly and efficiently develop, protect, and leverage their patent assets. Michael has extensive experience in building patent portfolios for a wide range of technical fields, including computer software, electronics, electromechanical devices, digital healthcare, machine learning, and electronic media. Michael’s alter-ego drag persona, Juicy Liu (Miss GAPA 2016), performs regularly in San Francisco and has personally raised over $60K for community organizations in the Bay Area, including the San Francisco Gay Men’s Chorus, SF AIDS Foundation through AIDS/Lifecycle, and Livable City, an advocacy nonprofit that works to improve transportation, land use, open space, and environmental policies in San Francisco.
