Elizabeth Pinolini (they/them) is a Staff Attorney with Whitman-Walker Health, a Washington-DC based community health center providing gender-affirming care, mental health services, and pro bono legal assistance. A former Equal Justice Works Fellow, Elizabeth provides counseling and direct representation to low or no-income trans and gender non-conforming clients on matters related to name changes and updating identity documents, accessing public benefits and insurance, and obtaining immigration relief. As a queer, non-binary person, Elizabeth is committed to empowering their community. They lead Whitman-Walker’s name change practice and coordinate free legal clinics to help clients prepare pro se filings. Additionally, they work to place clients directly with pro bono attorneys for representation with name changes and immigration matters, and they provide mentorship to partner attorneys who accept these pro bono placements. Elizabeth engages in community education and routinely offers know-your-rights presentations, and they have significant experience in training other community, legal, and social service providers on local name change processes, the intersection of sexual orientation/gender identity and immigration law, and best practices when working with queer communities. Elizabeth earned their law degree at American University Washington College of Law and is licensed to practice in Maryland and the District of Columbia.
