Ebony Ava Harper (she/her) is a first-generation American of Jamaican descent, born in Prince Georges County, Maryland, and raised in Los Angeles. Having come out as a Black trans woman at an early age, Ebony began working as an activist in the trans community, emphasizing the importance of the intersectionality between her racial and transgender identity. Throughout her career, Ebony transitioned from a trans activist to a human rights activist, addressing gender justice, climate justice, disability justice, and race equity on the local and national levels. Ebony is currently the Executive Director of California TRANScends, a statewide initiative that works to promote the health and wellness of transgender people throughout California. Ebony serves as a board member for the Transgender Law Center and Mirror Memoirs Borealis Philanthropy, and serves on the California State Transgender Advisory Council to Lieutenant Governor Eleni Kounalakis’s office.
