Jen Jenkins (they/them) is a policy advocate at the Legal Aid Society of the District of Columbia, D.C.’s oldest civil legal services organization. They focus on policy initiatives to address the needs of Legal Aid’s client community, which primarily consists of low-income and Black District residents. They came to Legal Aid D.C. in 2021 from the Office of Hawaiian Affairs, where they served as policy advocate focused on improving conditions for Native Hawaiians in their homeland. During and following law school, Jen helped pass legislation to improve access to transgender healthcare and to include ‘X’ gender markers through self-attestation for state IDs and driver’s licenses in Hawai‘i. Jen is a member of the New York bar and of Law for Black Lives. Jen is also on the Board of Directors for Whitman Walker Health.
