David Brown (they / them / theirs or he / him / his) is a long-time civil rights attorney who brings a lifetime of dedication to justice and equity, and over a decade’s worth of litigation experience, to TLDEF’s legal work. They have led teams challenging state and federal restrictions on abortion and contraceptive access in state and federal courts throughout the nation, including the United States Supreme Court; represented transgender and non-binary clients in groundbreaking civil rights litigation; and participated in numerous asylum cases. Before coming to TLDEF, they were a co-founder of the Lawyering Project, an organization dedicated to advancing reproductive healthcare access through an intersectional approach to challenging state-imposed restrictions on abortion and other care. David has also served as an attorney with the Center for Reproductive Rights and practiced with the firm of Cleary, Gottlieb, Steen & Hamilton. Before becoming a lawyer, they were an LGBTQ activist and human rights grant maker in Central America and Mexico. David graduated from the University of Michigan Law School and Pomona College.
