Kai Lo is Senior Corporate Counsel, Global Immigration at Amazon. Kai obtained his Master of Laws (LL.M.) in 2002 and Juris Doctor in 2005 from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. He was the first Taiwanese law scholar to be admitted into the Juris Doctor program at the University of Illinois. While in private practice from 2005 to 2020, Kai concentrated his immigration law practices on a great variety of areas in employment based petitions specifically B-1, E-1, E-2, E-3, H-1B, L-1A, L-1B and TN, for his corporate and private clients and represented employers in their permanent labor certification applications (PERM), Department of Labor Audits, and BALCA Appeals, and assists foreign nationals to adjust their status to that of a permanent resident under the EB-1, EB-2 and EB-3 preference. Kai also represented foreign investors in their individual EB-5 petitions. In addition, Kai has successfully responded to complex USCIS Request for Evidence (RFE), Notice of Intent to Deny (NOID), and Notice of Intent to Revoke (NOIR), and further convinced the Service Centers to approve or reaffirm the underlying visa petitions. Since joining Amazon, Kai is the primary lawyer responsible for counseling the HR teams that perform Amazon’s immigration and work authorization functions around the world, advising on an established high-volume immigration program, and unique immigration filings, while developing innovative solutions to complex challenges and exercising strong business judgment to think big to support his functions. Kai is admitted to the Supreme Court of Illinois and U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois. He is an active member of the American Immigration Lawyer Association (AILA) and has served as Co-Chair of Illinois Department of Employment Security and Department of Labor Liaison of the Chicago Chapter of AILA. Kai is a frequent speaker on immigration topics. Kai was selected for inclusion on the 2010 to 2017 Illinois Rising Stars list, which features outstanding young lawyers in the State of Illinois.
