ABOUT HENRIQUE
Henrique Canarim (he/him) serves as the Vice President, Senior Assistant General Counsel, and Assistant Corporate Secretary at Leidos. His expertise spans securities regulation, corporate governance, strategic transactions, and capital markets. As lead counsel for SEC disclosures and public company reporting, Henrique has been instrumental in shaping Leidos’ corporate responsibility and sustainability reporting. He also actively advises Leidos’ senior management and Board of Directors on investor relations, executive compensation, stock exchange compliance and insider trading matters.
Before joining Leidos, Henrique served as a Director and Assistant General Counsel for Corporate Governance and Securities at Capital One Financial Corporation. He was also an associate at the law firms of Davis Polk & Wardwell LLP and Morrison & Foerster LLP in New York, focusing on capital markets, securities, and corporate governance for domestic and international clients.
A graduate of Stanford Law School, Henrique contributes his expertise as a Board Member of the Association of Corporation Counsel (ACC) for the National Capital Region, where he serves as Chair of the Corporate and Securities Law Committee and LGBTQ+ affinity group. In this role, he has supported numerous panels and programs related to LGBTQ+ issues and serves as a mentor to early career LGBTQ+ lawyers, guiding them towards success in their careers. Henrique is also a frequent volunteer in ACC’s pro bono programs, having presented on LGBTQ+ legal rights to high school students through ACC’s Street Law program, and represented clients in Whitman-Walker Health’s name change clinic for low-income LGBTQ+ individuals for years.
As Chair of Leidos’ PRIDE employee resource group and member of the company’s enterprise inclusion counsel, Henrique has been a driving force in advancing rights for its LGBTQ+ employees. Under his leadership, Leidos implemented new policies and initiatives, including the creation of an LGBTQ+ benefits guide, building gender-neutral bathrooms, updating systems to accommodate expanded self-identification categories, and changing governance and policy documents to use gender-neutral language.
ABOUT STUART
Stuart Spencer (he/him) has been a licensed attorney for twenty five years. The majority of those years have been spent in various legal and leadership roles in two subject areas in which he is most passionate: the environment and natural resources. Stuart’s current position is Managing Counsel, Specialized Regulatory and Government Response, at Tyson Foods, Inc. in Springdale, Arkansas. Stuart has been an attorney at Tyson Foods for over two and a half years. Before being promoted to Managing Counsel, he worked as the company’s Senior Environmental Counsel for two years, a role within which he honed his skills and expertise. In the company announcement regarding Stuart’s promotion to Manager Counsel, it was noted that “he has not only brought subject matter expertise [to his job] but has also demonstrated strategic risk management, creative problem-solving, and positive influence with a variety of internal and external stakeholders.”
Prior to joining Tyson Foods, Stuart worked in private practice in Little Rock where he represented industry clients in environmental compliance and enforcement matters, primarily in the federal and state administrative space. Stuart gained the bulk of his environmental and regulatory experience during his roughly nine years working in various legal and leadership positions at the Arkansas Division of Environmental Quality (DEQ). While at DEQ, he served as the Office of Air Quality Associate Director and Senior Associate Director. Stuart also served as DEQ’s General Counsel, Legal Policy Advisor and Counsel in DEQ’s Office of Law and Policy.
Stuart is proud to be a member of the LGBTQ+ community. He came out to a classmate in law school half a lifetime ago. Since that day, he has lived his life openly and authentically. Doing so has not always been the easiest path, but Stuart has never veered from being who he is, both at home and in the work place. He has held positions of leadership in national and states organizations throughout his career. During his tenure in those roles, he never shied away from sharing stories about trips with his husband at meeting receptions and dinners. Stuart has also been a mentor to college and law school students in the LGBTQ+ community. He has spoken at university events about coming out and being out in the workplace. He has been a member of the American Bar Association’s Member Diversity Enhancement Program and has participated in Pride events across the country, including marching in the inaugural Pride Parade in Conway, Arkansas. Stuart truly believes representation and advocacy are more important than ever as the members of the LGBTQ+ community continue to grow and expand in their diversity and vibrancy.
Stuart is blissfully married to his husband of four and half years (and partner of double that time), Nick Bradford. They enjoy living in Fayetteville, Arkansas with the eight animals in their fur and feather family: two dogs, two cats, two chickens, and two ducks. Stuart’s home is his happy place, except when he is exploring international vacation spots with Nick (and finding a sitter for their animals).
