About William
William Tran is Senior Vice President, Business and Legal Affairs, Production Risk at Paramount. He began his career as an employment law litigator at Sidley Austin LLP for four years, and then transitioned to an in-house career, focusing on television production legal affairs. He joined Paramount in September 2017 after spending close to seven years in the Legal Affairs department at NBCUniversal. In his current role, William manages three other lawyers and oversees issues related to children and minors working in entertainment; immigration; casting discrimination; Covid compliance; and background, medical, and psychological diligence for reality TV participants and crew members.
William received his B.A. with High Honors from Swarthmore College, majoring in history with minors in Chinese and linguistics. He then graduated cum laude from the University of Michigan Law School where he was a Michigan Law Review editor.
Outside of work, William dedicates his spare time to the sport of figure skating. He is a Sectional Competition Judge and a Gold Test Judge in both Singles/Pairs and Ice Dance, and he serves as Pacific Coast Ice Dance Sectional Vice Chair on U.S. Figure Skating’s Judges Sub-Committee. He also chairs the SkateSafe Committee for U.S. Figure Skating, to which he was appointed by the President of U.S. Figure Skating. He is the current Vice President of the Pasadena Figure Skating Club and the immediate past President. He is a double U.S. Figure Skating Gold Medalist in adult skating, and he also serves as Chairman of the board of directors of the Southern California Interclub Association of Figure Skating Clubs.
About Lucas
Lucas serves as a marketing attorney for NBCUniversal’s streaming platform, Peacock, where he provides legal counsel on marketing issues related to a wide range of Peacock’s Original content. Recent highlights include Bel-Air, the Miley Cyrus Pride Special, and the Queer as Folk reboot launching this summer. For the past three years Lucas also served as co-chair of NBCUniversal’s Global Legal Diversity Committee, focusing on DEI efforts such as pipeline activities to recruit and mentor LGBTQ+ attorneys and attorneys of color. In this role, Lucas partnered with the LGBTQ+ Bar Association on various initiatives relating to Lavender Law and intersectionality. Prior to Peacock, Lucas was an attorney at Universal Pictures and a finance associate at Latham and Watkins.
In his spare time, Lucas enjoys being a fundraiser, community builder, and “cocktail designer” for Lambda Legal in the LA community, and is the co-founder of Lambda’s “Summer Sendoff” event held in LA for the past 10 years. He has served as a pro bono attorney for Public Counsel and KIND on various immigration and human rights matters for undocumented youth. He also enjoys participating in triathlons, marathons, and half-marathons and holds a Gay Games Bronze Medal in the triathlon.
Lucas received his Bachelor of Commerce from Queen’s University in Canada, his Masters of International Relations from the London School of Economics and Political Science in the UK, and his J.D. from Columbia Law School.
