In November of 2023, the National LGBTQ+ Bar Association and Foundation and the Law School Admissions Council (LSAC) invited all LSAC member schools (which includes all ABA-accredited law schools in the United States as well as some schools in Canada) and non-ABA accredited California law schools to participate in a joint law school survey of LGBTQ+ policies and practices. This survey was designed to identify policies and procedures that specifically impact the schools’ LGBTQ+ population. The survey asked each school to identify only that law school’s policies and data, and not those of any broader University structure associated with that law school (unless overall University policy guides law school policy).
The resulting survey data is compiled in this joint LSAC/LGBTQ+ Bar report entitled LGBTQ+ Inclusion: From Candidate to Law Student, 2024 Update. The Bar will also be publishing individual responding school’s answers to survey questions later this summer; in the meantime, please visit LSAC’s LGBTQ+ Guide to Law Schools to see schools’ responses.
The National LGBTQ+ Bar has also created a Best Practices Guide (last updated in April 2022) as a resource to assist law schools in their efforts to foster a safe, welcoming community free from discrimination. This Guide will next be updated in fall of 2024.
