ABOUT AMY
Amy Crawford is an incoming Assistant Chief Deputy Attorney General in the Office of Illinois Attorney General Kwame Raoul. She has previously served as First Assistant Corporation Counsel for the City of Chicago, Deputy Chief of the Civil Actions Bureau of the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office, and Deputy Director of the Cook County Department of Human Rights and Ethics. Before entering government service, Amy was a litigation partner at the law firm of Kirkland & Ellis, LLP. There, she had the opportunity to work with Jordan Heinz and Lambda Legal on marriage equality litigation in Illinois. She also worked on other LGBTQ+ civil rights cases, such as with the ACLU in a successful challenge to Michigan’s “Domestic Partner Benefit Restriction Act.” Amy has been a board member of LAGBAC – Chicago’s LGBTQ+ Bar Association – since 2019. She has been a mentor to many LGBTQ+ law students and junior lawyers through a variety of mentoring programs as well as through informal mentoring. Amy earned her B.A. from the University of Notre Dame, and her J.D. from the University of Chicago Law School. She lives in Chicago’s Ravenswood neighborhood with her wife and son.
ABOUT JORDAN
Jordan M. Heinz currently serves as Senior Intellectual Property Counsel at Abbott, a global healthcare company, where he advises Abbott businesses on trademark, copyright, and other IP matters. Prior to joining Abbott, Jordan was a partner in the intellectual property and commercial litigation groups at Kirkland & Ellis. During his tenure at Kirkland, Jordan partnered with Lambda Legal to lead the litigation teams that challenged the bans on same-sex marriage in Illinois and Indiana. Jordan later partnered again with Lambda to bring suit challenging President Trump’s ban on military service by transgender individuals. Jordan now serves as a Director on the Boards of Lambda Legal and Chicago Volunteer Legal Services where he chairs the nominating committees of both organizations. Jordan resides in Chicago, Illinois, with his fiancé, Parker Polley.
ABOUT MARION
Marion is a Chief Assistant Corporation Counsel in the Federal Civil Rights Litigation Division of the City of Chicago’s Department of Law, representing the City of Chicago in civil rights and torts cases. Marion has been with the City since 2011 and has worked in multiple divisions, working on cases ranging from municipal tickets to labor disputes to high exposure civil rights claims. Marion is a member of the Law Department’s Committee on Inclusion and Diversity and is the chair of the Volunteering Sub-Committee. In this role, Marion plans volunteering events for Law Department attorneys. Marion has managed the Law Department’s summer law clerk program for her division and has formally and informally mentored many junior attorneys and law students.
Marion has been an active member of LAGBAC – Chicago’s LGBTQ+ Bar Association for several years and has served on the Board of Directors since January 2023. As a member of the Board of Directors, Marion co-chairs the Law School/Mentorship Committee. In her off time, Marion enjoys running and taking trips to Michigan with her wife and two young sons.
