In response to Executive Orders banning topics such as “gender ideology” from federally funded K-12 education, the Department of Defense Education Activity (DoDEA), which provides education to dependents of military personnel, removed books, changed curriculums, and prohibited cultural awareness celebrations on school grounds. Additionally, hundreds of books about gender, class, and race were removed from libraries for “review.” Plaintiffs challenge these policies, arguing that the Executive Orders underlying the policies infringe on the plaintiffs’ First Amendment rights.
