Impact of Adding Pronouns to E-Signature

Impact of Adding Pronouns to E-Signature
    November 12, 2020

Did you know adding pronouns to your e-signature is not only a great move as a LGBTQ+ ally, but it can also bring in business?

Hear why with this video testimonial from a partner at Goodwin Procter LLP, Kris Brown, who attended our Lavender Law 365™ program and was inspired to add his pronouns to his e-signature. He shared his story as part of International Pronouns Day.

Here are a couple examples of what it looks like:

    M. Dru Levasseur, Esq.
Director of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion
    O: 202-637-7661
    E: dru@lgbtbar.org
    Pronouns: he/him/his

    M. Dru Levasseur, Esq.
    (he/him/his)
Director of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion
    O: 202-637-7661
    E: dru@lgbtbar.org

Want to get your whole organization or team on board? Here is some sample messaging spotlighted by Forbes:

“As part of our ongoing efforts to be inclusive of all gender identities, we are pleased to confirm that anyone wishing to do so may add pronouns to their email signature. Adding these words to your email signature has the practical benefit of making clear how you would like to be referred to, while also signalling to the recipient that you will respect their gender identity and choice of pronouns. It is an effective way of normalising discussions about gender and creating an inclusive work environment for transgender and nonbinary people.”

Using someone’s personal pronouns is a sign of respect, inclusion, and understanding. It also signals that you are making steps to forefront trans and nonbinary inclusion with your team and clients. Our blog has information about why pronouns matter, what you can do, and what happens if you make a mistake (hint: it’s all right) — share this resource with your colleagues!

Although pronouns are a great first step towards inclusion, the work doesn’t end with pronouns. Unfortunately, trans and nonbinary folks still face discrimination in the workplace every day. Dru Levasseur, The LGBT Bar’s Director of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion is on the ground working with your organization to educate on best practice standards for LGBTQ+ inclusion and equity through our Lavender Law 365™ coaching and consulting program.
