Those of you who have attended our annual Lavender Law® Conference and Career Fair might be familiar with our recruiter index. If you are not familiar with that index listing employment benefits, you can see our 2021 version here. This index derived from our requirement that all recruiters have a workplace nondiscrimination policy that includes both sexual orientation and gender identity. We have traditionally published this information in our conference and career fair program so that law students and lateral hires could assess which workplace is right for them. With the expansion of our year-round diversity, equity, and inclusion work, we have renamed this resource “The National LGBTQ+ Bar’s DEI Index,” and have made it publicly available as an accountability tool for the legal profession.
We know firsthand that an index can be a very effective tool to advance more equitable policies and practices in the workplace. Law firms are working hard to address the major gaps in diversity, equity, and inclusion for the entire LGBTQ+ community. Our DEI Index is now available online, so that legal workplaces can get the credit they deserve when they take steps towards inclusion. It’s our job to raise the bar.
We plan to be in person next year at our Lavender Law® Conference and Career Fair in Los Angeles from July 27-29, 2022. This is the world’s largest LGBTQ+ legal conference and career fair and the best opportunity to recruit LGBTQ+ talent, who will be looking to our DEI Index to decide which workplace is right for them in their job search. We encourage you to participate in our career fair as a recruiter or potential candidate. Be a part of the exciting work we are doing to make our workplaces more inclusive.
