There is an optional question on the application: “Do you identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, or transgender?”
Our associate deans have specifically reached out to LGBTQ attorneys to diversify our adjunct ranks. It is also considered in the regular faculty recruitment process as a positive diversity characteristic.
Care techniques such as mammograms, prostate exams, hysterectomies, etc. are available to all covered employees,. Parental leave policies are governed by FMLA. We are unsure of assisted reproductive benefits offered without the need for extended traditional attempts at pregnancy. Per a policy representative, if a diagnosis is made, coverage will be determined and an employee would be put in touch with a separate EAP vendor.
We have resources available to all students through our main campus, both health services and counseling services. In addition, the law school works with the Arkansas chapter of the Judges and Lawyers Assistance Program, which is also available to law students.
There is an ADA compliant single stall restroom located centrally to all building entrances with gender neutral signage.
Gender and the Law
All student organizations receive funding in equal amounts for student activities and events. Additional funds may be available based on demonstrated need. The law school also provides $500 to student organization representatives to attend out of state conferences. Requests for attendance are submitted to Student Affairs.
Question 2. One of our most recent emails, our Virtual Accepted Students Packet, included videos produced by each organization. Those videos are available at any time for accepted students to view. Admitted students are three clicks away from the commercial Outlaw produced.
The Law School also sponsors a table at Little Rock’s Annual Gay Pride Parade. Its student organization, OutLaw Legal Society, participates in the parade and other Pride Day events.
Question 3. Our accepted student packet does not specifically mention any student group. However, we correspond weekly with admitted students and part of that is information and introductions to all student organizations and/or organizational event highlights.
Question 5. While the law school’s registrar will only update official records using a social security card and a driver’s license, we can use preferred name on the student’s nonofficial documents.
Question 15a. To our knowledge, these employee benefits are available on equal terms to employees in same-sex marital relationships. Domestic partners are not covered.
Question 16. Counseling is provided. Surgeries and treatment are not.
Question 24. Our student group, OutLaw Legal Society, hosts events locally and in conjunction with the QLaw, the LGBTQ attorney group in Arkansas.
Question 25. Title IX training is mandatory. Safe Zone training is optional.
