The Student Counseling Center supports the intellectual, emotional, social and cultural development of students by offering a wide range of services, including personal and group counseling, consultation and educational services.
We value an atmosphere that is welcoming and comfortable for all students, regardless of race, gender, ethnic background, age, sexual orientation, religion, citizenship or disability.
We do have one bathroom that may be used by any person regardless of gender in one of our buildings
We have no policy regarding the use of bathrooms. Students, staff and faculty may currently use any bathroom that fits with their gender identity.
Gender and the Law
We have had an active organization in the past. However, last year most of the members were 3L’s, and unfortunately, the group is inactive. We do hope to have it active once again during the 21-22 academic year.
In the past, we have funded student participation in LGBTQ+ state conferences. We will continue to offer this to students if they wish to attend.
The University requires all faculty, staff and students to have Title IX training, which includes some information on LGBTQ+ issues. However, it would not be considered “robust” in dealing with LGBTQ+ issues.
The university and the law school administrators have participated in Safe Zone Training. We have a Project Coordinator for the Office of Student Advocacy and Anti-Violence Education. The Project Coordinator works with members of the university community to advocate and highlight issues related to discrimination on the basis of gender and sexual orientation. Our Student Counseling Center has been very supportive of LGBTQ+ members of our community.
