As we seek to admit and enroll a class that represents diversity in all its forms, we value enrolling students that are part of the LGBTQ+ community. While we do not ask students to self-identify as LGBTQ+, we host events and connect students with individuals and organizations to ensure that any questions, concerns, or other needs are addressed.
Our welcome packet does not go into particular detail about student programs or activities, but the School of Law conducts a series of informational sessions featuring affinity groups including OUTLaw (the university-recognized organization for those interested in issues of importance to the LGBTQ+ community), and all admitted students are notified of the opportunity to participate. Requests to connect with members of the organizations are also facilitated by the Admissions Office.
While the School of Law does not provide scholarships specifically for LGBTQ+ students, we help students identify external scholarships for LGBTQ+ students.
The university’s Human Resources and Operational Effectiveness (HROE) division works to facilitate a diverse applicant pool for staff positions. Our faculty hiring committee also works to build a diverse applicant pool and receives training on inclusive hiring practices and recruitment strategies. We conduct broad searches of qualified candidates and are careful to ensure balance and diversity of many types in our selection of interview pools and our short lists of potential new faculty and staff. All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to age, color, disability, ethnicity, sex, gender identity, gender expression, genetic information, marital status, national origin, race, religion, sexual orientation, or protected veteran status.

The Texas A&M University System has developed a regulation that provides system-wide standards for the receipt and processing of complaints of discrimination. Individuals wishing to submit an electronic report may also do so through the “Make a Report” form found at TitleIX.tamu.edu or they can submit an anonymous report through “Tell Somebody,” an electronic reporting option. In addition, anyone may report matters that they believe are criminal to the appropriate local law enforcement agency. Also, reports that a student, an employee, or a third party has engaged in conduct prohibited by University Rules should be made to the Department of Civil Rights and Equity Investigations.
Employees involved in the administration of civil rights complaints (including but not limited to: reporting, administering, investigating, adjudicating, advising, and informal resolution) complete annual training specific to their roles in accordance with requirements established by the Texas A&M System Ethics and Compliance Office. This does not include all staff/faculty/administrators.
The sharing of personal pronouns and honorifics is enabled, but neither encouraged nor discouraged by the law school.
We have a Diversity Committee consisting of faculty, staff, and student representatives who, along with our faculty diversity liaison, aid the administration in the design and implementation of programs that create space for community-building and conversations on diversity and inclusion topics.
