Akron Law Admissions actively recruits students from across the nation and regularly attends recruiting events with a focus on diverse student populations. In addition, Akron Law Admissions strives to promote equality and inclusion in the admission process for all; the Akron Law Admissions team also engages with continuing education on how to promote LGBTQ+ and minority students through the admission process.
Our admitted student packet is largely focused on “next steps” and information necessary to progress through the admission process. Our admitted student packet does not specifically mention identity support groups for LGBTQ+ students or any other student organization. Our admitted student packet does refer to our general law website, which does include a breakdown of active student organizations, including organizations for LGBTQ+ and diverse students.
Students are permitted to self-identify through the use of their Personal Statement or optional Diversity Statement.

The University of Akron School of Law has two gender-neutral restrooms that are identified by signs that identify the toilet equipment available in the restroom, not the gender of the person identified to use the restroom.
Such courses have been offered in the past and may be offered in the future. And we regularly offer a Social Justice Seminar that includes discussion of LGBTQ+ social and legal topics
The School of Law’s Office of Career Services promotes the Lavender Law Conference and Career Fair and offers a stipend for students to attend that and other professional development events.

The University of Akron School of Law seeks to recruit and support students, faculty, staff, and administrators from diverse backgrounds. Diversity and inclusion are important components of a well-rounded education. Additionally, the University of Akron School of Law has appointed Professor Brant Lee as Director of the school’s Diversity and Social Justice Initiatives. Under Professor Lee’s leadership, the University of Akron School of Law has created three initiatives focused on diversity and social justice: (1) a Social Justice Lawyering Seminar and Public Policy Clinic where students examine the role of lawyers in social justice movements and work with nonprofits or government entities on law reform projects; (2) a Social Justice Fellows program; and (3) a new student chapter of the American Constitution Society.
